Chris Mattes is the Certified Recruiting AdvisorTM of Boy’s Lacrosse for Destination Recruit®.
Achieving All-State recognitions in high school while playing lacrosse and soccer, Chris went on to play lacrosse at Rutgers graduating with a killer .635 winning faceoff percentage as well as All-Big East First Team and Academic honors.
Chris is currently coaching high school lacrosse, running faceoff camps for The Faceoff Academy, and playing Major League Lacrosse for the Boston Cannons. Knowing the pitfalls of the recruiting process and understanding first hand the student athlete college experience is more than playing a sport, Chris is committed to helping other student athletes navigate the recruiting process while finding their best fit both athletically and academically.
Chris’s Perspective
As a former Division I athlete who went through the recruiting process alone, I understand a high school athlete’s need for guidance. In high school, I received letters, emails, and calls from the smallest Division III schools to the biggest Division I schools.
Overwhelmed, I wasn’t sure where I would fit best academically and athletically nor who was truly interested in me versus those mailing out a generic recruiting letter. I had to figure out on my own who to visit, what to wear, say, and ask and how to make a decision that would affect the rest of my life.
Thankfully, I made the right decision to attend Rutgers University but some guidance along the way would have been helpful. I understand how stressful and frustrating it can be to navigate the recruiting process. You shouldn’t have to cross your fingers and hope you end up in a good place.
